President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday convened an emergency meeting with Nigeria’s top security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following renewed attacks in parts of the country that have heightened concerns over national security.

The high-level closed-door meeting brought together the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the National Security Adviser, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Inspector-General of Police. The urgent session is believed to be part of intensified efforts by the Federal Government to address the resurgence of terrorist and bandit activities, especially in the North-East and other troubled regions.

Sources within the Presidency indicated that the discussions centered on the recent wave of attacks on military formations, civilian communities, and strategic installations across the country. The President was said to have demanded a comprehensive briefing from the security leadership on ongoing operations and the immediate steps required to restore calm and public confidence.

The emergency meeting comes amid public outrage over recent violent incidents, including attacks in Borno and surrounding states, where both military personnel and civilians have suffered casualties. Reports of fresh assaults by insurgents and armed groups have continued to dominate national discourse, prompting renewed calls for stronger and more coordinated security responses.

Presidential aides said the meeting underscores the administration’s determination to confront the growing threats facing the nation and strengthen inter-agency collaboration among the armed forces, intelligence community, and the police. While details of the deliberations were not immediately made public, observers expect fresh directives and operational strategies to emerge from the session.

The development has placed national security back at the forefront of government priorities, as Nigerians await decisive action to stem the tide of violence and restore stability across affected regions.
