A former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Ben Nwoye, has expressed strong optimism about securing the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling party at its upcoming national convention.

Nwoye said he is confident of emerging victorious in the contest, which will see him succeed the current office holder, Emma Enekwu. He disclosed that his aspiration has received the backing of several stakeholders within the party, including the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, as well as other party leaders from across the South-East and other regions of the country.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja shortly after unveiling his campaign team, Nwoye – who previously served as Secretary of the Forum of APC State Chairmen – outlined his priorities if elected. According to him, his foremost mission would be to strengthen party unity across Southern Nigeria and mobilize support for the re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He emphasized that his ambition goes beyond holding office, noting that his focus would be on reinforcing the party’s grassroots structures and ensuring that the APC remains accessible and inclusive to members across the region.

Nwoye also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in Enugu State while working to consolidate the APC’s influence throughout Southern Nigeria.

He noted that his decision to seek the office followed consultations and encouragement from party leaders and stakeholders in his state and beyond, expressing confidence that the party can achieve greater electoral success through unity and strategic mobilization.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Ben Nwoye Campaign Organisation, Timothy Amah, described the aspirant as a unifying figure capable of strengthening collaboration among APC stakeholders across the South.

According to Amah, Nwoye’s leadership vision is centered on building stronger party structures, promoting fairness and inclusiveness, and rallying Southern Nigeria – from the South-East to the South-South and South-West – behind President Tinubu and the party’s broader progressive agenda.

He further stated that Nwoye’s experience and record within the APC position him as a capable bridge-builder who can foster reconciliation, deepen internal democracy, and strengthen the party’s electoral prospects at national, state, and local levels.

Amah assured party leaders and delegates that Nwoye is driven by a desire to serve and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the party, stressing that his leadership would promote unity, expand participation, and reinforce the APC’s political dominance in future elections.

He added that with Nwoye as Deputy National Chairman (South), the APC would become more cohesive and better positioned to deliver electoral victories while ensuring that the interests of Southern Nigeria remain well represented in national decision-making.
