LAGOS – Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has dismissed reports of a political rift between him and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as he formally declared his intention to seek a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I, made the clarification during a recent engagement with constituents, describing claims of a feud as unfounded and politically motivated. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Gbajabiamila, whom he referred to as a leader and mentor, while also expressing willingness to mend any perceived misunderstandings.
“I don’t have any issue with him… if I have erred in any way, I apologise,” Elliot said, emphasizing unity and continued collaboration.
The lawmaker also used the opportunity to confirm his intention to contest again in the 2027 elections, arguing that his experience in the legislature positions him to deliver greater benefits to his constituents. According to him, longer tenure translates into better committee placements and increased access to development opportunities for the constituency.
Elliot stressed that governance is a continuous process, noting that replacing experienced lawmakers with newcomers could slow legislative effectiveness and constituency development. He added that his focus remains on improving infrastructure, job opportunities, and social development in Surulere.
His declaration comes amid growing opposition from some stakeholders in Surulere, who have criticized his performance over the years and opposed his bid for a fourth term.
Despite the criticism, Elliot maintained that his ambition is driven by a desire for continuity and sustained progress, insisting that his legislative experience would better serve the interests of his constituents if given another mandate.
