Daura, Katsina State – Yusuf Buhari, son of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

Yusuf Buhari is seeking to represent the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to multiple media reports, the declaration was made during a recent political gathering in his hometown of Daura, where he signaled his readiness to step into active politics and continue what he described as a legacy of public service. The constituency he intends to represent is widely regarded as the political base of his father.

While Yusuf Buhari has largely maintained a low public profile compared to other members of Nigeria’s political families, his entry into partisan politics marks a significant shift and is expected to generate reactions both within the APC and across the broader political landscape.

Political analysts note that his ambition reflects a growing trend of second-generation political participation in Nigeria, where relatives of former leaders seek elective positions. However, it remains unclear whether he will face strong opposition within the APC during the party primaries, as competition for tickets ahead of the 2027 elections is expected to be intense.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the APC national leadership regarding his declaration. Similarly, electoral authorities such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have yet to release the timetable for the 2027 general elections.

Further developments are expected as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle.
