Abuja – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

The nomination, conveyed to the Senate for screening and approval in line with constitutional provisions, follows the resignation of former Minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with more than 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.

He currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), overseeing efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, including engagements aligned with Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.

Tegbe has also been involved in key reforms within Nigeria’s power sector, working with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), particularly in areas of regulatory and institutional restructuring.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, Tegbe will leverage his extensive experience to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
