President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated plans to establish a Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO) to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity transmission system and improve power delivery nationwide. The proposal forms part of efforts to reform the country’s power sector and address long-standing inefficiencies within the national grid.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the State House, Abuja, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President. He said the proposal was contained in a memorandum presented by President Tinubu for Council deliberation.
According to Idris, FEC has approved an inter-ministerial committee to design the operational framework for the proposed company and address regulatory, legal and investment issues. The committee’s recommendations will later be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative consideration.
