Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has formally obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form to contest the 2027 election in Bauchi State, marking a significant step in his political comeback.

The nomination form, reportedly priced at N50 million, was picked up on Wednesday at the APC secretariat in Bauchi in the presence of party officials and supporters.

A video from the event showed Tuggar completing documentation and receiving the form amid cheers from party faithful, underscoring growing support for his ambition within the state chapter of the party.

Tuggar, who recently resigned from his ministerial position to pursue elective office, said his governorship bid is aimed at addressing key challenges confronting Bauchi State, including poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and gaps in education and healthcare.

He also emphasized that his aspiration would strengthen internal democracy within the APC rather than create division, pledging loyalty to the party and its eventual decision during the primaries.

“This is not just my ambition; it is a collective mission to move Bauchi State forward,” he said while interacting with party stakeholders.

The former diplomat and lawmaker further outlined plans to boost agriculture, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and harness the state’s solid mineral resources as part of a broader development agenda.

Political analysts say Tuggar’s entry into the race is likely to intensify competition within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as the party weighs options between consensus candidacy and a direct primary.

With the purchase of the nomination form, the Bauchi governorship contest is gradually taking shape, setting the stage for what could be a keenly contested primary within the ruling party.
