Security agencies have apprehended four suspected bandits in the vicinity of the Akure Airport in Ondo State after a coordinated operation involving aviation security and other law-enforcement bodies.
The development was made known in a statement released late Sunday by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
According to the airport authority, the individuals were initially spotted behind the airport’s perimeter fence in the direction of the Eleyewo community. Their presence raised suspicion and immediately triggered a security response.
Following the alert, personnel from FAAN’s aviation security unit and other security agencies swiftly moved to secure the area and commenced a joint search operation.
During the operation, some of the suspects reportedly tried to flee the scene, but four of them were eventually captured by the combined security team.
FAAN confirmed that the suspects have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for further questioning and investigation.
The authority also praised the prompt cooperation among the various agencies that participated in the operation. Those involved included operatives of the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Amotekun Corps, as well as local vigilante groups.
FAAN noted that the effective collaboration between aviation security personnel, military operatives and community-based security outfits was key to the successful arrest of the suspects.
