The National Sports Commission has rolled out a three-part strategy shaping Nigeria’s sporting direction in 2026, covering domestic competition structure, global talent engagement, and international representation.A Main Organising Committee has been constituted for the maiden National Intermediate Games in Lagos, with Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade serving as Chairman, setting the stage for a new competition layer designed to bridge the gap after the National Youth Games. At the same time, a Diaspora Talent Discovery Committee, chaired by Dr. Tunde Adelakun, brings together experienced professionals across football, athletics, media, and administration to strengthen Nigeria’s global talent identification and integration.Complementing both structures, Team Nigeria Ambassadors have been unveiled ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, combining former administrators, elite athletes, and key stakeholders to support preparation and representation on the international stage.Taken together, these decisions point to a deliberate effort by the Commission to build depth in the domestic system, widen the talent pool globally, and strengthen Nigeria’s competitive edge at major events.
