Security operatives in Cross River State have apprehended a suspected arms trafficker in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.

The 60 years old suspect – Okon Williams, was arrested during a coordinated operation carried out by law enforcement agencies following credible intelligence. Sources within the security network revealed that the operation was part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling criminal supply chains fueling violence and insecurity across parts of the state.

According to preliminary reports, a cache of firearms and ammunition was recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest in Odukpani LGA of the sate. Investigators believe the weapons were intended for distribution to criminal groups operating within and beyond Cross River.

A senior police official noted that the arrest underscores the commitment of security agencies to restoring peace and maintaining law and order. “We are intensifying surveillance and intelligence gathering to ensure that individuals involved in illegal arms dealings are brought to justice,” the official stated.
