Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has paid tribute to mothers across the country and around the world, applauding their strength, sacrifices and invaluable contributions to families and society.

In a message released to mark the 2026 Mother’s Day, the First Lady described mothers as the unseen pillars who shape the future of the nation through their devotion, patience and unwavering support within the family.

She noted that the efforts of mothers, both in great sacrifices and in the quiet daily acts of care, form the foundation upon which families and communities thrive.

“Today, I celebrate every mother across Nigeria. Your devotion, compassion and countless sacrifices are deeply appreciated,” she said.

She added that the true essence of motherhood is often reflected in the simple but meaningful moments of love, care and guidance that mothers provide every day.

According to her, mothers play a crucial role in raising responsible citizens and instilling values that strengthen the nation.

“To all mothers who nurture, inspire and shape our homes, you remain the true heroes of our nation,” she said.

The First Lady also encouraged mothers to continue guiding and mentoring their children, stressing that the lessons and values passed down today will shape the leaders of tomorrow.

She expressed hope that mothers would live long to witness the success and accomplishments of their children and future generations.

Mother’s Day is observed globally in honour of mothers and their influence in society. While the celebration is held on different dates across countries, it is most commonly marked in March or May.
