The Federal Government on Thursday reassured Nigerians and the international community of the country’s stability, following the recent decision by the United States to authorise the departure of non-emergency personnel from its embassy in Abuja.

Describing the move as a routine precaution based on the U.S. government’s internal security protocols, the government said the advisory does not reflect the overall security reality in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Federal Government maintained that public institutions across the country remain fully functional, with no disruption to governance, economic activities or daily life.

According to the minister, while isolated security challenges persist in some parts of the country, there is no widespread breakdown of law and order.

He noted that most parts of Nigeria remain peaceful and stable.

Idris said ongoing military offensives, intelligence-driven interventions and enhanced collaboration among security agencies have continued to yield measurable gains in the fight against insecurity.

He explained that recent operations in affected regions have successfully disrupted criminal networks, curtailed the activities of armed groups and improved safety in vulnerable communities.

“Our security agencies remain actively engaged in protecting lives and property, and the results of these efforts are increasingly evident,” the minister stated.

The government further reiterated that Nigeria remains open to business, tourism and foreign investment, stressing that ongoing economic reforms are boosting investor confidence and improving the nation’s global image.

Idris added that international partners and investors continue to engage constructively with Nigeria, a development he said reflects confidence in the country’s long-term stability and economic prospects.

While acknowledging the right of sovereign nations to issue travel advisories based on their own assessments, the Federal Government called for fair, balanced and up-to-date reporting of the security situation.

He urged international partners to maintain close engagement with Nigerian authorities in order to obtain a broader and more accurate understanding of developments across the country.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining ongoing security improvements and ensuring the safety of both citizens and foreign visitors.

It assured the international community that Nigeria remains a safe and welcoming destination.

The statement was signed by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, and dated Thursday, April 9, 2026.
