The defectors cite irreconcilable differences within their former parties and the need to better position their constituencies politically. The defections were announced on the floor of the House by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
From Adamawa State, James Barka, Laori Bitrus, Zakaria Nyampa, and Kobis Thimnu moved from the PDP to the APC.
From Anambra State, Peter Uzokwe defected from the YPP to the ADC, while Afam Ogene, Peter Aniekwe, and Lilian Obageli Orogbu moved from the Labour Party to the ADC. Also, Jessey Onakalusi from Lagos State and Murphy Osaro from Edo State defected from the Labour Party to the ADC.
The lawmakers said their decisions were based on internal crises in their former parties and the need to align politically for the benefit of their constituencies.
The Deputy Speaker also announced the defection of eight other lawmakers but said no formal ceremony would be held for them as they were not present in the chamber.
Mr. Kalu noted that the lawmakers would have to appear in person before the House to confirm their decisions to avoid any denial of defection.
They include Hassan Husseini, Tijani Khaki, Muhammed Shehu and Uchenna Okonkwo
