The National Sports Commission has praised Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, for their impressive displays at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in France.

Nigeria’s team has once again demonstrated the determination and resilience that have made them one of Africa’s most successful sides in international women’s basketball.

The seven-time champions of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket began their campaign on a strong note with a convincing victory over Colombia. They followed that performance with a spirited comeback win against the Philippines, overturning a halftime deficit to secure a 101–84 triumph.

Although the team suffered a defeat to South Korea, their competitive spirit and commitment have remained evident throughout the tournament.

D’Tigress are scheduled to face hosts France on March 15 before concluding their qualifying fixtures against Germany on March 17. These matches form part of their journey toward securing a place at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will be hosted in Germany.

The Sports Commission also commended the players, coaching staff, and the Nigeria Basketball Federation for their discipline, hard work, and dedication in representing Nigeria with pride on the global stage.

It reaffirmed that the country remains fully supportive of the team as they continue their campaign toward qualification for the 2026 world championship.
